Whether you give a smile or a gift - its about connection!

Sending a card or giving a small thoughtful present to someone I care about, has always brought me such joy! I love the thought behind the care of another, much more than the item itself. A gift is something that is given willingly to someone else. There is no need of a repayment or for the recipient to give a gift in return. Its the thought that counts. . . and as we process through this difficult and unique time in our lives, it has made this idea even more valuable.

Saying hello to all the people you see on those daily walks (that you may not have noticed in the past), greeting the grocery clerks & cashiers, thanking someone that has just delivered a package to your door - these simple exchanges seem to come so easily now. I hope, as so many hope, that this trend continues and just explodes in our society through the years to come. To look up, to notice, to show gratitude and to appreciate all people that make up a town, a state, a society.

As an organizer, I would like to suggest you designate a small area in your home - a shelf, a cabinet or a basket in your closet - this will become your gifting center; think about including cards or paper to draft your thoughts on paper, stamps, some tissue, gift bags and then some very small gift items. Think useful, such as a lovely wooden spoon, a small bud vase or natural bar of soap. An important questions is - do we really need more things? But a considerate & kind token - like a fragrant candle that once the wick burns out, the container can become a vessel for pens, flowers or cotton balls. Or a batch of your special cookies, a chocolate bar or some fruit from your tree. Now, that is a thoughtful gesture. One that says, you are special, important and I see you. Writing a note with just the words, “ I thought of you today. . .” can bring an instant glow to someone’s heart. Think about adding some dried flowers, cutout hearts or a sprig of rosemary or lavender inside from your garden or flower pot. These are genuine, heartfelt gifts to the both you and the recipient.

Setting up your own small card/gift center will keep things tidy, organized and ready for giving.. With the focus on being thoughtful - let’s keep our relationships vibrant and valued. Connection is the bloodline that links all humans.

Stay safe & connected!
