Use your intuition to create your ideal spaces - Repurpose, reuse & thoughtful donations

I think everyone can use their intuition (if you tap into it). Intuition is that feeling that something is off or needs our attention.  Researchers at Leeds University, analyzed loads of research papers on intuition and they found that the brain uses your past experience, ideas from the self and your surroundings to make a decision. That decision occurs with such speed that we don’t even realize what has happened. The more we learn about it, the more we can use intuition to create the life & space we want on a daily basis. Read this short article here to learn more.

Using your intuition when you enter a space in your home ~ where does the natural energy bring you? Up, down, nowhere, everywhere?  A person’s style is unique and when it is authentically yours, it doesn’t take long to look around to feel that a room or closet or the overall theme is weighing it down or not staying in line with your vision.  Ideally, walking into all of our rooms and spaces should feel like you want them to - for some that is simple & monochromatic or diverse & colorful or intriguing & natural - what’s your vibe?   Of course, we can’t all make numerous changes throughout our home due to budget or time constraints, but we can begin - one closet or one room at a time.  Training yourself to use your intuition, starts by listening to your heart; what is important to you? Photos of family? Your children’s art or a painting from a dear friend?  A fabulous mask or piece you purchased on a trip?  Maybe it is just certain colors? Do you gravitate to certain materials? Do you love nature - the mountains, the beach or trees?  Take some time, look online, at books or magazines and pay attention to what you are attracted to.  Here’s where you begin. Now, what do you already have that you can work with? Start in a room that you spend a lot of time in.  Whether that is your workspace or living room. . . place the item(s) on a table, the wall or the floor.  Now, you start building.  Shop your home, shop at your friends & family places and then, as your budget allows shop online; set up a Pinterest board with your ideas or create a simple vision board or an inspiration notebook (this is what I use)  -  to shop; think Next Door, The Local Flea (https://thelocalflea.com) if you are in Norcal or Ebay or the sales section of a favorite online retailer.  Slow & steady - creating a place you will feel inspired in, one room at a time is the approach.

Another way to think, is when you feel you have a decor or useful item, but it’s just not fitting your theme anymore or space - think about what you could do to change it.  Could you paint it? Could you add something onto it; like raffia, a band or some other decorative item from your craft bin or your local craft store?  Could you reuse it in a closet or the garage? Think about it, taking something you have and repurpose it somehow.  Turning something into a useful and new design is really fun, creative and fulfilling.  And, if you just can’t use it and the item is in good condition, then donate to a  place that will appreciate it. (Adult daycare place, a shelter or if they are bins or useful materials an after school program or camp - this is “thoughtful” donating) or add to your garage sale you or a friend is having soon, so someone else can discover a treasure.

Thoughts for today, use your intuition to discover your style (btw, it changes through time). . . refresh spaces, repurpose things and be thoughtful with your donations.

In these unique times - are you taking care of your well-being? Is your Workspace catering to your well-being too?
