Book & Books & Books!

Many people enjoy reading, collecting and keeping books. Some of them are for work purposes, some for pleasure and some were given to you as a gift. So, where do you begin if you are running out of shelf space?

  • The best strategy is to remove all book from your shelves (on your night stand, in drawers, counters - you get it!) and bring them into the same room.

  • Now, as you are bringing them all together, be separating them into categories; research, spiritual, fiction, subjects etc.

  • Once this is accomplished, the next step is to review (you may have been doing this as your collected them) the books by asking yourself these types of questions; am I interested in this book/subject any longer? can I get the information on line now? am I keeping the book because it was a gift? do I have more than one copy? what it important to my life right now? and most importantly imagine someone else enjoying a book that has been waiting for a new reader!

  • Asking these questions, will help you process along fairly quickly.

  • Once you are down to the books you want to keep - decide how to put them back on the shelves; of course now in their categories - but also think about arranging them. Some horizontal, other vertical, color organize by category is also an option.

  • Books are art too!

  • What do you do with the books you are ready to give away? depending on the subject, you can give them to:schools, veteran organizations, family shelters, neighborhood “little libraries”, to the your local library’s book donation, online organizations for soldiers & students in need throughout the world or a recycle book store where you can get cash or exchange for something new.

The key is to do your research, make a call to confirm they are in need of books and donate them to promote literacy everywhere!
